Did You Read To Your Child Yesterday?

Everyone knows that yesterday was Valentine's Day, but did you know that it was also "Read To Your Child Day?" I hope you take time to read to, or with, your children everyday, but if you don't...it's never too late to start! Family reading time obviously promotes literacy, but it can also promote quality family bonding, exchange of ideas, stimulate discussion on a variety of topics, generate laughter and create treasured lifelong memories. February 26th is "Tell A Fairy Tale Day." Why not sit down and read a few good fairy tales as a family and then use everyone's imagination to create your own fairy tales afterward. Better yet, let the kids act out the fairy tale as they make it up. Who knows...in addition to having a lot of fun, you just might encourage a budding author or actor/actress!

Barefoot in Compliance With Safety Law

You might have heard a lot about the consumer product safety law going into effect in February concerning lead standards and other potentially toxic material content in children's toys, books, etc. Barefoot Books wants you to know that we continually monitor the production of our products, as well as those of our partners, to make sure we are well within the limits of compliance. CHeck out our statement on this issue:
"
Safety Information
The health and safety of the children for whom we create our books is the top priority.
All of our books and CDs are produced to the highest standard and are well within the limits required in the US under the new CSPIA (Consumer Safety Product Improvement Act)*. Because we distribute our products internationally, all of them also meet the more stringent safety standards under European Union (EU) law, which mandates that children’s products must not contain lead levels of more than 90ppm (parts per million).
Products containing concentrations of more than 0.1 percent of specified phthalates are banned. Our books are phthalate-free.

In addition to manufacturing our own products, we distribute puppets manufactured by Folkmanis and puzzles and games manufactured by Mudpuppy Press. These partner companies confirm that their products also comply with the CSPIA; for further details, please visit our partners’ websites.

If you would like any additional information, please contact Alia Hamada in our Cambridge office (alia.hamada@barefootbooks.com)
*The new US law requires lead content of less than 600ppm as of February 10, 2009; less than 300ppm as of August 2009, and less than 100ppm as of August 2011.
